Man charged over Denmark bank robbery
The man charged over the alleged armed robbery on a bank in Denmark last week stole close to $7000, a court heard today.
Dennis Lloyd Rankins, 41, made a brief appearance via video link from Albany Regional Prison in Albany Magistrate’s Court this afternoon.
Mr Rankins was not required to plead to the charge of armed robbery and was remanded in custody to appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrate’s Court in Perth on May 6.
The court heard Mr Rankins allegedly stole $6800 from the National Australia Bank on Strickland Street on April 8 after allegedly threatening staff with a tomahawk axe.
He then left on foot running down the laneway at the rear of the bank and dropped a sum of the money which was recovered by police.
Mr Rankins was arrested the next day on Lockyer Avenue by police and detectives.
Unrelated charges of aggravated burglary, common assault and driving without a licence were adjourned until June 11.
