Denmark’s Keb Evans has charged from seventh place to finish runner-up in his KA3 junior final at the WA Sprint Kart Championships held at Tiger Kart Club’s Wanneroo race track on Sunday.

Evans, a member of the Lake King Kart Club, was seventh in qualifying but failed to finish his heat race after doing two laps.

The youngster recovered to claim fourth in prefinal 1 and third in prefinal 2 to qualify in seventh position in the 20-lap championship final.

Evans got a brilliant start as he climbed from seventh to third by the completion of the opening lap and then passed Corey Minton on lap nine to grab second spot.

Despite his best efforts in the second half of the final, Evans could not reel in Damon Papasergio who crossed the line 2.67 seconds ahead of the Denmark local.

Albany’s Mitchell Perrella also impressed at the championships placing sixth in the competitive WA Open Performance class.

Also a LKKC member, Perrella was consistent across the weekend after being ninth quickest in qualifying and then sixth in his heat.

He recorded a fifth and sixth place finish in the two prefinal events, to start the 20-lap final from four on the grid.

Perrella fell back to eighth after the first lap but recovered to finish in sixth spot.

In the 20-lap cadet 9 final, little separated Albany City Kart Club duo Mitchell and Tyler Riedyk.

Mitchell failed to finish prefinal 1 but bounced back to cross the line ninth in the final while Tyler was 0.146 seconds behind him in 10th spot.

ACKC member Greg Pearson finished 11th in the Tag 125 heavy championship final, while Lake King member and Albany resident Dion Hounsfield claimed 11th in the KA3 senior heavy class and Albany’s Bob Harrison was 20th in the competition’s KA3 senior super heavy division.
