Kyle up for new sedan challenge

Katanning’s two-time State modified champion Kye Blight has set himself a new challenge this year, having jumped divisions into a late-model sedan recently.

The 22-year-old won back-to-back WA modified sedan titles in 2013 and 2014, and finished third at the Australian Modified Sedan title in Albany last year.

Blight said he felt like he had achieved all he could in modified sedans and was looking forward to working up the ranks in his new vehicle.

“I thought we had achieved what we wanted to achieve in modifieds and the time was right to make the jump,” he said. “We got some good sponsors on board, so it was viable to do.”

The young gun said he had a five-year goal to work on, and his first goal was to win Rookie of the Year and eventually win a Late Model Pro Dirt Series trophy.

“If we can win, then hopefully we can build on that and be competitive every night,” he said.

Blight’s new one-tonne, 850hp rig was custom-built in America by Rocket Chassis.

His first race was on Boxing Day in Bunbury, where he finished fifth in a field of 21.
