Krakouer's a no-show for Bulls

Mt Barker has been dealt a major blow just two weeks into the Great Southern Football League, with former Gold Coast Suns player Nathan Krakouer opting to play for Maddington this season.

The Bulls were hopeful of securing the AFL player’s services last week, despite not being able to contact him for several days but it was revealed late last week he would not be playing in the league this season.

Bulls coach Matt Taylor spoke of the disappointment of Krakouer’s decision but did not blame the ex-AFL player who is living and working in Perth.

“We did put a lot of time and resources into getting Nathan across but nothing against Nathan,” Taylor said.

“It would have been great for the competition and helped us out a hell of a lot, so we are really disappointed but that’s life sometimes.”

The loss comes as a blow for the Bulls, who lost the services of their travelling players from last year, and would, according to Taylor, battle to find a prize recruit.

“We are looking at it, but the trouble is footy has started everywhere,” he said. “We have got to June 30 to find some players … we have good numbers at the club but we may not be as strong as we would like to be.”

“That means we might need to get something extra out of the players we have got.”

Taylor confirmed Bulls vice-president Brad Hook spoke to Krakouer last week, and was told of his decision but Taylor wished him all the best for the season and said the door would always be open at Frost Park.

Bulls remain winless after their first two matches of the season and face Albany in round three of GSFL this Sunday.
