Albany junior cricketer Layton Taylor is one of five cricketers selected as CSBP Junior Cricketer of the Year for their region.

Picture by Ben Crabtree: Albany’s Layton Taylor is presented with his CSBP Junior Cricketer of the Year trophy by Warriors Martin Paskal and Ryan Duffield.

Layton was presented with his award at the WACA last Sunday.

Taylor joined Kade Morton (Wheatbelt), Ben Miller (South West), Jono Jones (Mid West) and Jarrad Keron (Goldfields) for an on-field presentation at the WACA during the Ryobi Cup Match between the Retravision Warriors and the XXXX Gold Queensland Bulls.

Warriors’ squad members Ryan Duffield and Martin Paskal presented each budding star with a signed bat from the Warriors.

The juniors were hosted, along with one of their parents, in the CSBP corporate box for the match.

WACA cricket operations %manager Steve Phillipe said regional cricket officers were asked to select a player from their respective regions to receive the award.

CSBP Great Southern regional cricket officer Tim Hutchison said Layton was picked as the Great Southern CSBP Junior Cricketer of the Year not only for his talent in batting and bowling but also for the desire to improve as a player.

“Layton was the youngest member of the Lords Taverners Great Southern winter squad and displayed a fantastic work ethic which has seen him improve out of sight as a player,” Hutchison said.

“Layton has the ability to become a very good all-rounder with his leg spin and top-order batting.”

Recipients of the award had to be under the age of 13, attend training regularly, display a positive attitude, co-operate with coaches and teammates and follow instructions correctly.

Layton plays in the Albany Junior Cricket Association under-14 competition for the Blues. He opens the batting and bowls leg spin.

The two-month Great Southern Lord Taveners program in Albany was run across eight sessions prior to the season.
