Veteran Irish comedian Jimeoin has been performing non-stop since kicking off his enthusiastically named tour — Yeehaa! — in Edinburgh last year, and now the time to laugh has come for Albany.

Having spent three months in the UK and four months here in Australia, he will travel all over the South West with back-to-back shows this July.

The tour name — Yeehaa! — promises a fun night.

“It just sort of conjures up a sense of joy,” he said.

“It’s got a real strong message.”

After 25 years in the laughing business, it’s evident he knows what it takes to survive on a stage but said the anxiety he felt telling a new joke or doing a new show would never fade.

“If you’re trying to find a subject matter that is left of centre, that can be real dicey,” he said.

“But the reward is more than just talking about Kardashians or toilet humour,” he said. “Public speaking is an adrenaline-based sport ... it’s up there with skydiving ... probably more frightening, actually.”

Jimeoin might make it look easy when he is on stage but he said a great amount of concentration was required, and even after he prepared material, it ultimately came down to the moment he was in on stage.

“Truth is, you wouldn’t listen to someone that long — that is a lecture,” he said.

“If you’re having a laugh, you’d listen to them at the bar but then you’d let someone else speak and it moves around.

“It’s unnatural for one person to be speaking on a night out for all that time.”

Jimeoin said he hoped people would walk away from the Albany show believing it was unique.

“Expect a good night, really,” he said.

“Expect nothing less. I mean, you’ve paid money.”
