Itsy bitsy, etc, but not yellow!

The Denmark Girls won’t be hard to spot at this weekend’s Rottnest Channel Swim.

Rae Powys, Jenny Brenton, Jill Sheed and her daughter Phoebe Thornton are believed to be the first ever all-female team from Denmark competing in the event, and they are doing it in style.

“Just think itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikini only without the yellow,” Jill laughed.

Despite referencing a cheeky frolic, Brian Hyland’s 1960 classic will probably be the last thing running through 19-year-old Phoebe’s mind as she lines up at Cottesloe Beach on Saturday morning.

Donning matching red and white polka dot bathers, fitted to bodies toned from months of regular training, the girls are sure to turn heads.

“We’ll probably take it in five-minute rotations,” Rae said.

“Our goal is just to make it over,” Jenny said. “And get to the Quokka Arms for a drink,” she added with a smile.

“Yeah, I’m looking forward to the party after,” Jill said.

Phoebe just smiled.

Besides their togs and desire to party, the four women share a love for swimming.

For the past two months, the quartet have been training at Green’s Pool for an hour-and-a-half, three mornings a week.
