A loud roar filled the centre of town on Saturday morning, December 14, when hundreds of motorcycle riders dressed in tinsel made their way to York Street for the annual Albany Bikers Charity Run.

A record 331 riders participated this year, raising $4726 and filling a small trailer with toys for the Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal.

Vintage Motorcycle Club of WA Albany section vice-chairman Paul Armstrong said it was fantastic to see so many people get involved with the cause.

“Even though we broke the record for the number of bikes we had, that’s not really what we’re all about,” he said.

“Every year we are slowly but surely getting more and more gifts donated and we’re raising more cash which in hand increases our contribution to the needy.”

Salvation Army Albany captain Niall Gibson said it was wonderful to see the community band together.

Mr Gibson said a majority of the proceeds would be converted into food vouchers and some would be used to buy extra gifts for about 100 Christmas hampers.

“To have 300 bikes come together from different clubs just gives you more faith in the community … the Salvation Army gives our grateful thanks to everyone who participated,” he said.
