Horses, driver escape nightmare rollover
Emergency crews took an hour-and-a-half to free two horses trapped in a float which rolled on to its roof while travelling on Denmark – Mt Barker Road yesterday.
The four-wheel-drive vehicle towing the horse float late was travelling north on the windy Denmark – Mt Barker Road late Sunday morning when the bumps in the road caused the vehicle and the float to roll over onto their rooves.
Great Southern Traffic Police Senior Constable Cameron Mitchell said there were no contributing factors to the accident.
Sen. Const. Mitchell said a vet was called to the scene to sedate both horses and it took about eight police and Department of Fire and Emergency Services personnel to free the horses from the float using ropes.
The female driver, from Denmark, was uninjured and did not need medical attention.
Sen. Const. Mitchell said both the horses and driver were “very fortunate” to escape injury.
