His boots were made for walking ...

Andrew Cadigan’s boots were made for walking, and walking, and walking.

The 30-year-old from New South Wales’ Central Coast is on an epic walk around Australia to raise money for the NSW Cancer Council.

He was in Albany over the weekend for a well-deserved breather after a 12-day trek from his last rest stop in Esperance.

Mr Cadigan said his inspiration was his mate Chris Simpson, who passed away after a battle with cancer in May last year aged 24, and the epic trek was a tribute to him.

Armed with just a pram loaded with up to 80kg of food, water, a tent and wet-weather gear, and three iPods chock full of music, which he described as “the saviour of my sanity”, Mr Cadigan set out from Sydney on December 27 last year.

Averaging about 45km a day, Mr Cadigan traced the coast to Melbourne without a hitch before sustaining an injury to his shin in Tasmania that forced him to sit out a month.

Since then it’s been full steam ahead, taking in the sights of the iconic Great Ocean Road to Adelaide, up to Port Lincoln and across the Nullarbor.

So far Mr Cadigan has raised $22,300 and hopes to raise about $50,000 by the time he hits Australia’s top end in time for Christmas. “People pull their cars over, or stop me in the street to give me money, the generosity of people has been unbelievable,” he said.
