Four hikers required rescuing from Bluff Knoll yesterday after becoming disoriented when bad weather set in during the afternoon.

The rescue began after the men contacted the Department of Parks and Wildlife, which launched a response from the State Emergency Service, police and Parks and Wildlife rangers.

SES received a call from police at 4.40pm requesting assistance for the rescue after the four men, who were prepared for an overnight stay, became disoriented.

SES units from Albany, Mt Barker, Gnowangerup and Tambellup responded.

Along with two Parks and Wildlife rangers, local police and 29 SES volunteers, the men were guided back to the track and eventually to base.

SES district manager Lynda Elms said the ranger’s knowledge of the area was important in the rescue.

She said it appeared the men were well prepared for the hike.

Police said the men were cold and wet but were unscathed.
