Denmark Country Club's Jo Haub overcame a horror start to her second round to clinch a thrilling win in the Brenda Wittenoom Open on Sunday afternoon.

With the challengers for the prestigious 36-hole stroke competition faltering around her in the second round on Sunday, Haub recovered to claim the title by three strokes with a score of 142 net, ahead of WA Golf Club pair Christine McKenna (145) and Joan Ross (146).

Haub remained in the hunt on Saturday evening, trailing McKenna by four shots, but struck trouble on the back nine on Sunday morning before her fortunes changed.

McKenna made the running on Saturday, shooting an impressive 67 net to lead Maria Amesz (69), Marg Skinner and Haub (71), but shot a second round 78 to hand the title to Haub, who replicated her first round with another 71.

The first-time entrant said she was thrilled to win the title after thinking her hopes had been dashed by the disappointing start to her second round.

"I came down and had a really good round (on Saturday) and went home that night chuffed," she said.

"But I started Sunday like a dog.

"I shot a four, eight, eight and seven to start, I lost a ball.

"I'm just so surprised."

Haub believed the start of her change in fortunes was when she entered the front nine.

"I started parring a few and I think that was the turning point, the front nine," she said. "I couldn't believe I could produce two identical rounds."

The best gross for the 36 holes was by Karrinyup's Sharon Dawson with 158 off the stick, while Royal Perth's Lyn Gould produced the best gross on Sunday with 83.
