Harrop shoots into WA team
Albany man Jason Harrop can lay claim to being the city’s sharpest shooter after playing himself onto the WA team for the 2013 Australian Eight Ball Senior Nationals.
After 27 years honing his skills, this will be Harrop’s first opportunity to represent WA.
The Australian championships will be hosted in Perth at the Kings Hotel from November 12 to 26.
The State trials started with 30 competitors vying to make the final side of 10 players.
Harrop won through to the team in a play-off on the final day of the trials.
The WA eight ball team also face off against a touring British Lions pool squad before the nationals. Harrop, who was born in England, said he was looking forward to playing against a few old mates from his homeland.
“I nominated for the trials to play for the British eight ball team 16 years ago when I lived in England but I never attended because I knew I was moving to Australia,” he said.
“Since I have been in Australia it has been a dream of mine to play against the English Lions.
“It’s been a bit of a running joke with my mates that I play eight ball with, so it will be a real honour to represent WA against the Lions and all the other States.”
Harrop said playing against his old country was something he could tick off his bucket list.
