Happy 100th birthday Alice!

KATHERINE MOUNTAINAlbany Advertiser

A few hearty puffs were all it took for Albany’s newest centenarian to blow out the candles at a birthday bash on Tuesday.

Alice Roberts celebrated her 100th birthday with quite the party from her home at Gwen Hardie Lodge at Emu Point, with City of Albany mayor Dennis Wellington and local MP Peter Watson on hand to help polish off the birthday cake.

Mrs Roberts’ niece-in-law Dawn Davies, who has looked after her in recent years, said her aunt was doing tremendously well for her 100 years.

“We used to joke for years about how when she turned 100 we would celebrate with a big party, not quite expecting she’d really get there,” Mrs Davies said.

As for the secret to her longevity, which has been recognised with a telegram from the Queen, it’s definitely not genetic, with Mrs Roberts outliving all of her siblings by a country mile. “I don’t know how I got here, but I’m here,” Mrs Roberts said.
