Group is friendly to all
A support group for Albany's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community is urging local businesses to join its push for a "rainbow revolution".
Albany Gay and Lesbian has been offering support for people of diverse gender and sexual orientations for three years.
Founding member and Headspace Albany manager Andrew Wenzel said one in five young people who visited the service provider identified as "not straight," with some experiencing discrimination in Albany.
Group member Ryan Denniss said they wanted to promote a sense of acceptance and celebrate diversity.
"It is a hidden population … there is not a lot of forthcoming community support," he said.
"We are asking business to put their hand up and say they are supportive of young people being able to go there feeling safe."
More than 25 businesses have joined the social media campaign through their Facebook page, which Mr Denniss said was prompted by the historic Supreme Court decision passing marriage equality in the United States.
Kate's Place owner Kate Ruggera said she joined the cause because she did not support any kind of discrimination and wanted her cafe to be inclusive for all members of the community.
