Great Southern Football League have begun their division 2 campaign at the Landmark Country Football Championships brilliantly this afternoon, thrashing Mortlock at HBF Arena.

After winning the division 3 title last year, the GSFL kicked the opening six goals of the contest in their return to division 2 and led by 35 points at half time.

Despite Mortlock kicking a goal inside the first 90 seconds of the second half, the GSFL responded almost immediately as livewire Jayden Woods kicked truly.

After kicking two goals in the first half, which included a superb shot from a tight angle on his non-preferred foot, Woods kicked the next three goals of the game to effectively kill off any Mortlock hope.

Luke Cameron dribbled a goal in from the pocket late in the match to drive home the 59-point result.

Woods was simply unstoppable, finishing with six goals and was clearly best afield in the 11.5 (71) to 1.6 (12) result

Centre half forward Luke Cameron, co-captain Ryan Kinnear, Craig Frost and defenders Ben Gray and Bodhi Stubber were among the better players.

Chayse Eades was lively at half forward with two majors and full forward Glynn Verbruggen also jailed two majors.

The GSFL had far superior leg speed across the ground and dominated the midfield battle to register their maiden win of the 2015 campaign.

They now face Central Midlands Coastal in their second match later this afternoon.
