Great Southern excels in tourism awards
The Great Southern has been recognised for excellence in tourism after receiving nine awards at the Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards on the weekend.
The City of Albany was the major winner for the region, receiving two gold medals at the prestigious event, including the Local Government Award for Tourism and New Tourism Business for the National Anzac Centre.
The City also received a bronze medal for Anzac Albany in the Major Festival and Events category.
Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said he was thrilled to receive the awards, which were testament to the City's hard work.
"The City of Albany has a great team, the best we've ever had, and the award was recognition for the tremendous efforts across all departments of the organisation," he said.
The Lake House Denmark was also highlighted for its extraordinary tourism experience when it received a gold medal in the Excellence in Food Tourism for Vino Foods and a silver medal in the Tourism Restaurants and Catering Services category.
Other Great Southern winners included the Shire of Denmark, which took bronze in the Local Government Award for Tourism, the Denmark Ocean Beach Holiday Park, which won a bronze medal in the Caravan and Holiday Parks category, and Taste Great Southern, which won silver in the Major Festival and Events category.
The NAC is also set to represent Western Australia at the national Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in Melbourne next February.
