Having three women take over his kitchen will be a new experience for Pepper and Salt chef Silas Masih.

But the opportunity to host three Australian food darlings for a four-hour, four-course long table lunch has him excited for those lucky enough to find a seat at the table.

The three cooks — celebrity chef Anna Gare, chef and food writer Sophie Zalokar and the legendary Stephanie Alexander — will team up and impart their wisdom and experience at the restaurant’s stunning setting at Forest Hill Winery.

Masih said he was happy to play the support role to some of Australia’s household names who will showcase local produce on their menus.

“I’m really excited to have all three chefs, especially Stephanie with all she has done for food in this country,” he said.

“It just drives passion to have people like her available.”

Masih said Gare, who plans on moving to the region, had been influential in raising the profile of Taste Great Southern.

“I think it’s fantastic for the region, number one to have an event such as this,” he said

“For the last nine years she (Anna) has been a huge supporter and now that she has enticed Stephanie, being so iconic in Australian cuisine, is a huge coup.”

Each chef will prepare a canape, entree, main and dessert for the event, described by Masih as a “social gathering”.

“That’s what country eating is all about,” he said.

“They will be very hands on, talking to the guests, mingling and sitting down at the table. It will be a social, fun event.”
