Friends ride to honour Logan
In Australia, eight babies are born every day with congenital heart disease and Albany boy Logan Adams, 18, was one of them.
In October, Logan died from complications with his heart, so this July, 20 people are riding from Perth to Albany to celebrate the life of a much-loved son, brother and friend to raise funds for Heartkids Teen Camp 2017.
Logan’s family and friends want to honour his life by doing something special ,which is why they are riding from Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth to Great Southern Grammar in Albany to raise $50,000 to fund the next Heartkids Teen Camp.
The idea came from Logan’s best friend Daniel Leary, who said after his friend died, Logan’s mother Maureen Adams made it very clear the family didn’t want to be inundated with flowers, and instead suggested people should donate to Heart Kids WA.
“The camp meant the world to Logan and I starting thinking that the one-off donation wasn’t going to cut it, so I thought ‘what if I could start something to raise more funds?’,” he said.
“Since then we have all been overwhelmed with the support and generosity of the community.”
Ms Adams said the camp was life-changing, and when the funding stopped for Australia Teen Camp and each State unexpectedly had to fund its own, she was all for supporting the cause.
“By doing this ride and supporting HeartKids WA, we get to honour him along our journey in the most positive way,” she said.
“Logan would be so proud of us and thrilled that we are supporting other teenagers to attend this camp.”
The ride will culminate in a quiz night at Great Southern Grammar on July 16 to celebrate the ride and raise the remaining funds required to make the camp happen.
