Film fest heads for Albany

The newly created touring arm of the Revolution Perth International Film Festival has released a jam-packed program ahead of its arrival in Albany later next month.

The Rev on the Road program contains five feature films, two documentaries and a special screening spread across three days at locations in Albany and Esperance.

Among the line-up is Australian horror flick The Cabin in the Woods, co-written and produced by The Avengers director Joss Whedon, and Buster Keaton classic The General.

Program director Richard Sowada said he was “very pleased” with the end result.

“It’s really important that the event does what it can to connect with audiences and to keep people on their toes,” he said.

“I wanted to allow each of the films to have that sense of ‘the unique’, something that people may not have tried before.”

He said the inclusion of documentary The Imposter added to the program’s allure.

The American film, released this year, tells the astonishing story of thirteen-year-old Nicholas Barclay, who went missing in Texas in 1993 (only to reappear in Spain years later, seemingly unharmed. “Of probably all the films, that one is probably the least known but it is the most accessible,” Mr Sowada said. “People will watch that documentary and they’ll walk out of the cinema and go, ‘Wow, that was really something’.”

Australian cult classic Mad Max, which paved the way for Hollywood stardom for then-unknown actor Mel Gibson, is also part of the festival, along with special guest and cast member Steve Bisley.

Mr Bisley will conduct an audience Q&A after the film’s screening on Saturday, September 22.
