Festival launches month of good taste
From riesling and goat’s cheese to oysters and bushtucker, the Great Southern’s world-class produce will again be celebrated and showcased during a month-long festival.
The 10th Taste Great Southern festival will be launched at Albany Entertainment Centre this Thursday night.
The region’s producers, wineries, growers and tourism operators are supporting more than 50 events over February and March.
Nine guest celebrity chefs will take part in Taste this year, including Stephanie Alexander, Poh Ling Yeow, Don Hancey and Danny McCubbin, who will be joined by local big names like Dan Sharp and Silas Masih.
Celebrity chef Anna Gare said she looked forward to working with locally grown produce.
“It’s such a beautiful region and it has so much to offer. It’s about meeting all the people who are in it growing and farming, and just celebrating what they are doing,” she said.
“My part as a chef is pulling that together and making people more aware of how fantastic the produce is in this region and how vast, wide and incredible the land is.”
The Taste festival will showcase each of the Great Southern’s wine sub-regions, with events in Albany, Denmark, Walpole, Porongurup, Mt Barker and Cranbrook.
Events will include long-table lunches, a pop-up supper club, twilight gourmet barbecue, coffee master class, beach beer festival, high tea, cheese and wine tasting workshops, a panel debate and master classes with chefs, winemakers and brewers.
A bushfood festival, oyster festival and the popular Porongurup Wine Festival also feature on the Taste calendar.
