,Family of five face eviction
An Albany woman and her four children are in housing limbo as they face eviction from their Housing Authority accommodation after a series of incidents over the past two years.
Renae Robinson moved into a three-bedroom unit in Mira Mar with her family two years ago and received her final strike from the Housing Authority earlier in the year after her partner, who was not living at the premises, became involved in an argument with neighbours.
Ms Robinson said after the strikes she had worked hard with her family to rectify the problems, but was now being asked to leave.
“We’ve fixed what they asked us to fix and we’ve done our best with it and nothing has helped,” she said
“I understand the problems to start with, but it was all within a few months and there hasn’t been one problem for about nine months, and now they’re telling me I have to move out.”
Ms Robinson was initially told she would be evicted on August 19, but Housing Authority service delivery general manager Greg Cash said the eviction had been delayed.
“Despite the notice period expiring on July 21, Housing has delayed eviction action to provide the tenant with the opportunity to identify alternative accommodation,” he said.
Ms Robinson said she had been having difficulties trying to find a new place to live.
“With four kids nobody wants to lease their house out to us, I’ve even tried places out of town and still nothing,” she said.
“It’s scary to have the thought that me and the kids will be homeless in two weeks.”
Mr Cash said the relevant authorities had been informed.
“The Department for Child Protection and Family Support has been notified of this tenant’s situation,” he said.
