Facebook twist to alleged shooting

KATHERINE MOUNTAINAlbany Advertiser

A 50-year-old Albany man faced court on Wednesday charged with causing grievous bodily harm after he allegedly shot a teenager at his Bornholm property.

It is alleged Steven Lloyd Goater shot 18-year-old Luke John Dellar in the chest after a dispute on the property on Saturday, February 5.

Mr Goater attempted to plead not guilty to the charge but the Court would not accept the plea until he sought legal advice.

He pleaded guilty to other charges of possessing a prohibited drug and cultivating a prohibited plant.

In a twist to the case, Mr Goater made an application for a violence restraining order against the shooting victim.

Mr Goater alleged he was being harassed by Mr Dellar and others on the social networking site Facebook.

Prosecuting officer Sergeant Ron Watkins said it was believed the incident was family related.

Mr Dellar remains in a stable condition at Royal Perth Hospital and has since used Facebook to post photos taken in hospital displaying his injuries.

All matters were adjourned until March 17.

Mr Goater was released on extended bail until his next appearance in court.
