Ex-Eagles to feature at hospice fundraiser

Two of the West Coast Eagles’ greatest players will tee off in Albany this weekend in a bid to raise some funds for the Albany Community Hospice.

At this year’s annual community hospice fundraiser, Dean Cox will join regular guest Glen Jakovich for a dinner and sporting memorabilia auction this Saturday evening, followed by a day on the green on Sunday.

Jakovich, participating in his sixth year of the fundraiser, said it was an event he now attended religiously.

“We go out to the hospice in the afternoon to visit all the nurses and volunteers out there,” he said.

“Then there is a surreal moment when we meet some of the patients there, it’s an eye-opener and a real leveller and makes you appreciate that you have a healthy life.”

Albany Community Hospice board chairwoman Jane Mouritz said the charity event provided a significant portion of the hospice’s annual funding

“We have an ongoing need for operational funds and that’s every year we need those funds,” she said. “We aim to raise quite a substantial sum at this event — it’s one of our main annual fundraisers.”

Ms Mouritz attended the golf day for the first time last year and said she was in awe of the generosity and support the attendees had.

“It’s a wonderful community spirit,” she said.
