Drug lab, stashes uncovered in bust
Albany detectives conducted two significant drug busts last week with another clandestine drug laboratory found in Albany and a large cannabis stash found in Mt Barker.
Police uncovered the clandestine lab in the heart of Albany on Serpentine Road in Mt Melville last Wednesday.
Detective Sergeant Mark McKenzie said although the lab was small it had been used to manufacture methamphetamine and its proximity to the centre of Albany meant it was significant.
Det-Sgt McKenzie said two people had been interviewed regarding the equipment and he expected charges to be laid.
The same day police found 68 cannabis plants at a property in Mt Barker along with items consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Det-Sgt McKenzie said a 67-year-old male had been charged with cultivating cannabis with intent to sell, possession of prohibited items and possession of cannabis.
The Albany find brings the number of clan lab discoveries in the Great Southern Police District this year to three, following the detection of dumped methamphetamine equipment near Betty’s Beach and the discovery of a laboratory in a house in Hopetoun, both in the first week of January.
