The Shire of Denmark is proposing rate rises of 4.9 per cent for the 2016-2017 financial year and has listed the proposed increases in each rating category.

Shire acting chief executive Cliff Frewing said the diverse nature of the region meant differential rates were essential.

“The Shire of Denmark provides services to a diverse region consisting of many different land zones and uses,” he said

“In order to reflect this diversity and ensure that rating levels are fair and equitable, council proposes to impose different rate charges for different types of properties.”

Mr Frewing said the proposed rate changes were yet to be adopted by the council.

“The proposal will increase total rating revenue across all 3984 properties by 4.9 per cent compared to the total adjusted rate charges levied in 2015-2016,” he said

“Anyone can lodge a written submission in respect of the proposed system on or before Friday July 15.”

The proposed changes can be seen at www.denmark.wa.gov.au or at the Shire of Denmark Administration Centre.
