Community spirit will be in full force as Denmark residents host a "sizzle and stall" fundraiser for a former local's sick son on the corner of South Coast Highway and Strickland Street this Saturday.

Despite leaving Denmark seven years ago, Clint Joy has been showered with support from the community after his son Huck Braden was born with a congenital heart defect.

Huck, who was born July 4 at the BC Women's Hospital, Vancouver, had undergone nine operations before he was 10 days old to correct the condition, which has reversed his aorta and pulmonary artery.

Event co-organiser Tanya Evans said after hearing of Mr Joy's situation, the community has come together in true "Denmarkian" fashion to support the family.

"It's what people in country towns do," she said.

Mr Joy, who is living in Vancouver with his wife Cheryl, said they were overwhelmed with the support they had received. "It's real touching to feel support from all the way across the world," he said.

At time of print more than $14,000 had been raised for the family, which has allowed Mr Joy's mother to fly to Canada to help the family.
