Dall pumped to play for home crowd

Talented WA volleyball player Cameron Dall is bursting with excitement ahead of his homecoming when WA takes on the Victorian Vultures in an Australia Volleyball League fixture at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre this weekend.

The event is the first AVL fixture to be played in regional WA and will feature some of Australia's best indoor volleyball players.

Dall, who grew up in Albany and went to school at North Albany Senior High School, will return home to play in front of family and friends in the WA Hornets' crucial final two pool matches ahead of next month's finals in Melbourne.

After playing in the Albany Volleyball Association as a teenager, Dall moved to Perth after graduating in 2008, where he has spent the past seven years in the State volleyball system.

The 24-year-old has been playing for the WA Hornets for five seasons and said it was a thrill to be coming back to play in Albany.

"I'm not really nervous, just really, really excited," Dall said.

"I have been sick with illness for four weeks but I am on the mend now and it will be great to play in front of family and friends.

"Mum is from a family of 10, so maybe 50 per cent of the crowd could be my family.

"It's not very often I get an opportunity to play in front of them."

The WA Hornets are fourth in the men's AVL standings, but second behind the Adelaide Storm in the South conference, going into this regional clash.

"This is a really important game for us and we are definitely going to have the home advantage," Dall said.

"If we win both our games, it gives us a good chance to finish top of our conference and play second in the East conference in the semifinals.

"I play in the opposite position, so I will be trying to get attacking plays and big blocks."

Dall said he held hopes of one day playing volleyball for Australia and has recently been invited to play for a New Zealand side in their national competition.

Skills and coaching clinics will be held across the weekend along with curtain-raiser matches between the AVA and Esperance Volleyball Association.

On Saturday, the WA Pearls will take on the Victoria Vultures at 4pm and again on Sunday at 9.30am, while the WA Hornets will play the Victoria Vultures at 6pm on Saturday and 11.30am on Sunday.
