Cricket: Railways take out Twenty20

CAMERON NEWBOLDAlbany Advertiser

Railways have won the Great Southern Twenty20, hitting the winning runs off the last ball of their innings to defeat Collingwood Park.

Set 118 to win, the Tigers required 16 off the over with Coen Marwick getting two runs from

the final delivery.

Julian Crudeli got the Tigers off to a great start when he removed Park captain Russell Hare for just four in the fourth over.

Brenden Abbott (28) and Matt Heberle (10) then came together to add 37 runs before Simon Harvey removed Abbott.

Harvey then took the wicket of Heberle to leave Park at 3-57 but contributions from Nathan Dovey (13) and Tim Pyle (30) saw the total past 100. Crudeli (2-10) and Harvey (2-28) were the best for the Tigers while captain Zane Marwick (2-25) bowled Daniel Parker (0) and Mayes for Park to finish at 7-117.

An early breakthrough from Pyle saw Matt Clothier join opener Crudeli as they put on a vital partnership before Grant Freeborough dismissed Clothier (12).

Park quick Ben Grey had Nick Lee caught behind for a duck and when he clean bowled Andrew Sephton (1) the very next over, the score was 4-58.

Crudeli continued to cause trouble, chipping away to give the Tigers hope. Adam Mayes (2-25) finally got rid of him on 42 and with three overs to go, they were just 5-85.

Matt Hope (2-13) took the late wickets of Rob Gibson (5) and Tim Edmunds (7) to leave Lachy Pember and Harvey at the crease.

They took 10 runs from the 19th over and were 7-102 before Harvey took the game on. He blasted a quick 14 before holding out to Mayes in the final over.

Needing two runs off the last ball, Coen Marwick arrived at the crease only to loft the ball to Ben Grey who dropped the chance.
