Craig's on the road to Tamworth

AMY HALLETTAlbany Advertiser

He's been a regular on the Albany music scene for the past 12 months but now Craig Sinclair has the chance to go national.

Albany musician Craig Sinclair has been selected as one of the top four songwriters in the Telstra Road to Tamworth national talent development program.

Sinclair left Albany for Sydney on Tuesday to take part in the intensive music mentoring Boot Camp and also received an Epiphone acoustic guitar.

He qualified for Boot Camp after impressing head judge Bill Page, of Mushroom Music, with his two original song compositions, Rustling Armour and Peace is the Road.

Last year Sinclair reached the performance category grand final of the Telstra Road to Tamworth and is looking forward to entering the song-writing category.

“It’s a massive festival but the grand final event is huge, with 1200 people,” Sinclair said.

He discovered a love for playing the guitar while in England six years ago.

He was inspired by 1920s and 1930s acoustic blues before getting into contemporary blues music.

He writes intense songs and says he tries to do something original.

Originally from Mandurah, Sinclair moved to Albany with his girlfriend a year ago and performs regularly in town.

If successful at Boot Camp, he will win $1000 and progress through to the Telstra Road to Tamworth finals in January.

“It’s going to be great to catch up with friends from last year,” Sinclair said.

Sinclair will return to Albany in December and will be playing at the White Star on December 12.
