Coveted career beckons for ambitious beauty
Albany waitress and beauty therapy student Charlisse Cronin is no stranger to the camera as she pursues her goal in the modelling industry.
At just 17, Charlisse has a wide social media following and is building up her modelling portfolio through Instagram with stunning shots from local photographers and friends Reece Childs and Marcus Dibble.
Charlisse told the Albany Advertiser modelling had been a huge deal for her ever since she was little and she started modelling with a few friends at Tricia’s Modelling Management when she was about 13.
“I have always loved the dressing up and the adrenalin modelling would give me right before a show, and through modelling, I have given myself and a lot of people confidence in being who you are,” she said.
“Most of my photos are having fun behind the camera on a sunny day with friends, but I allow every chance I can get when someone asks me to go out and do a shoot for them; I enjoy every moment.”
Although she is not currently modelling with an agency, Charlisse said she was starting to apply for agencies in Perth to pursue her goals, adding her inspiration for her modelling came from everywhere.
“You can be inspired by a lot in the fashion industry and my inspiration was to see those beautiful girls on magazines and how confident they were with their bodies and how they weren’t ashamed of how they looked,” she said.
“It takes a lot of guts for a woman to be confident about themselves and ever since I started modelling, I have never felt camera shy or ashamed of how I look or who I am.
“Also, seeing country girls like myself go so far with their modelling makes me never want to give up — you are you and no one else can change that.”
With a very good social media following, Charlisse said was able to promote her photos with the help of her Instagram account.
“Social media is everything these days and is everywhere and my Instagram is how I promote myself, which has been very beneficial,” she said.
“I get lots of photographers asking to come up to Perth/NSW and Sydney for photo shoots, but only being 17 and only just getting my licence, it used to make it hard for myself to make the trips there.”
“I find that social media does boost my career. I once had a photographer notice and recognise me in a restaurant from my Instagram.”
The aspiring young model said she hoped to travel with her modelling and work with agencies and designers around the world.
“To be on the front covers of magazines for beautiful designers would be a dream, and to be able to say that I used to look up at girls on the front covers of Vogue, Marie Claire and Elle would be incredible,” she said.
