Contract breach spells end for City CEO

KEIR TUNBRIDGEAlbany Advertiser

Albany City Council has effectively sacked its chief executive Faileen James and does not intend to pay out her contract after it met last night to finalise a parting of ways.

The Albany Advertiser understands council considered public comments made by Ms James on ABC Radio on Wednesday morning regarding her departure from the City were a breach of her contract.

Council voted to “accept the repudiation” of Ms James employment contract.

In a statement this morning, Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said council considered the comments made by Ms James on radio had made her employment untenable.

Ms James suddenly left the City on Tuesday morning citing “irreconcilable differences” between her and council.

Executive Director of Community Services Linda Hill has been appointed acting chief executive.
