City to Surf winner smashes rivals
Perth Runbirds member Brandon Hargreaves broke through for his first win in the Chevron City to Surf for Activ regional series, smashing his opposition by more than four minutes during the Albany event on Sunday morning.
After finishing second in the Geraldton leg last weekend, Hargreaves cruised over the 12km course in a time of 38min.9secs ahead of Linda Spencer (42.41) and fellow Runbirds teammate Sam Maxwell (43.26).
Jonathan Morris (44.31) was the first local to cross the line in the 12km run, while Andrea Campbell (49.19) was the first Albany female over the line and finished ninth overall, just behind Richard Dunn (48.14).
In the 4km run, Daniel Rubick was a clear winner ahead of Steven Gillingham and Daniel Goodall.
Christine Murray (17.14) was the first female across the line over Amanda Sobey (17.47) and Erin McAleese (18.25).
Lachlan Puls won the 4km walk while Gail Westlund prevailed in the 12km walk.
Albany Primary School took out the Chevron School Challenge with a team of 36 participants to win a $1000 Rebel Sports voucher.
More than 450 participants took part in Albany’s first City to Surf event.
This is the third of four regional legs before Perth’s event later this month.
