CEO 'not interested' in long contract

City of Albany chief executive Graham Foster is likely to have his contract extended by at least a year at a council meeting next month.

Albany City Council’s governance committee has been meeting to discuss Mr Foster’s performance and is likely to recommend he stay on in the job, according to Mayor Dennis Wellington.

Mr Wellington said a special meeting of council would probably be called next month to formally extend Mr Foster’s contract, pending further discussions.

“We are just setting in place the process we have to go through in terms of performance assessment, but we’re very keen for him to stay on,” he said.

Mr Wellington said Mr Foster had indicated he would not be interested in a five-year contract, as has been the case with previous chief executives.

“He’s 65 years of age and he doesn’t want a five-year contract, it will be a couple of years at best but we’ve still got to determine that,” he said.
