Bumper field revved up for second round
More than 100 entries across 11 divisions have been received for round 2 of the Southern Eastern Zone Series, which will be held at the Albany City Kart Club this weekend, featuring a host of local drivers.
Big fields have entered for a number of classes including the cadet 12 division, which has 19 drivers nominated so far including ACKC representatives Aaron Riedyk, Tyler Hotker, Jayden Turner and Kane Badger.
That foursome will do battle with a host of visiting competitors including series leader Jack Clohessy, Esperance’s Jacob Zloich, Luca Nici and Travis Hutt.
Local trio Greg Pearson, Jason Riedyk and John Hamment all appear strong chances in the Tag 124 heavy division, with Exmouth Kart Club’s Stephen Arscott making the long trip to Albany to compete in the class.
A total of 17 entries have been received in the KA4 junior light category, which Hurricane Kart Club’s Jacob De Cerqueira currently leads after a dominant display in the opening round at Esperance.
Max Whiting, Holly Panizza and Cody Leunen are others to watch with Albany’s Liam Stronach also among the field.
Jake Condren is another Albany driver that will take strong claims into this weekend in his sportsman KA3 combined senior division, which has 11 entries so far.
Condren is joined by five other Albany competitors as they chase Albany resident and Lake King member Dion Hounsfield, who currently leads the series standings.
Fellow local member Mitchell Riedyk heads up a list of 10 cadet 9 nominations, including series leader James Micucci-Allen.
ACKC president Greg Riedyk said it looked like being another terrific weekend of racing.
“Numbers are a bit down, but it’s pretty good considering how numbers are at the moment around the State,” Riedyk said.
“We have lot of locals drivers competing.
“Mitch (Riedyk) and Aaron (Riedyk) should be up the top of their classes and Greg (Pearson) and Jason (Riedyk) in the 125s as well, so there are few there that should hopefully podium on their home track.”
Practice will start tomorrow at noon and run until 5pm with racing getting under way about 10am on Saturday.
Racing will start about 8.30am on Sunday with the finals completed about noon.
