Bumper field of sedan stars
One of the biggest sedan contingents in WA will converge on Attwell Park Speedway in Albany this Saturday for a production sedan and street stock sedan feature.
A massive field of street stocks has entered the annual event which offers $5000 in prize money.
The production sedan feature will also be run on Saturday evening, with 15 drivers nominated for the event.
The Albany Speedway Club originally planned to bring back the Southern 100 – a 100-lap distance race which was the biggest of its kind in production sedan racing across WA – however, not enough interest was received and the event was cancelled.
“We were trying to reintroduce an event that had a lot of prestige,” ASC president Kevin Theyer said.
“At this stage we did not have enough interest but we are keen to run the event in the future and we will speak to the drivers about it on the weekend.”
Despite the setback, Theyer said Albany would witness a highclass sedan show on Saturday, with stars entered across both divisions.
“We have exceptionally good fields in both and it will be a bumper night,” he said.
Visiting drivers Matt Amato, Warren Oldfield, Daniel Salter, Greg Avins, Daniel Ameduri and Shane Kulker will headline the 24 street stocks.
Warren Oldfield is the current WA late model sedan champion, while Amato finished third at the national title in 2007-2008.
Local driver Tim Tysoe will be a strong contender on his home track along with fellow Albany peddlers Tim Coxall, Clint Udecz and Peter Herbert.
Another bumper field of production sedans will take to the Attwell Park clay headed by twotime Australian street stock champion Jamie Oldfield.
Albany’s Ron Belfield, who has not raced this season, has nominated and will be fancied given his two national and five State production titles.
Former Albany resident Nathan Penn will also return to Attwell Park.
Racing will start at 6pm with junior and super sedans joining the feast of racing action along with formula 125s.
