Fond memories of childhood holidays spent camping at a beach near Denmark inspired a young family’s new accommodation business, which has been booming over the past six months.

Denmark man Darren Williams bought a 56ha property at Parry Beach seven years ago, more than 30 years after his parents and another local family purchased it and built a beach house as a holiday destination.

Mr Williams and his partner Angie McHugh began renting the beach house to holiday-makers, which was so popular they decided to build two more beach houses.

“We both have fond memories of holidays spent in family beach houses and want to make that a reality for everyone,” Ms McHugh said.

She said their dream was to revive Parry Beach as an iconic holiday destination, while providing a bit more luxury than was on offer to past generations.

Juggling Mr William’s work on the family cattle farm, Ms McHugh’s job as a radiographer and their 20-month-old daughter Stella, they started building two new beach houses last June.

They opened the doors of Kudetah and Shangri-La in December, which were named after their “hidden piece of paradise”.

Ms McHugh said their new business has been humming along.

“We are rapt with the number of bookings, positive feedback and how well received what we have done has been by everyone who has seen the property,” she said.
