Artist's work propelled to Youth Awards
Aspiring young Denmark artist Jennifer Rose, 17, had the pleasure of seeing 13 artworks she created presented as trophies to inspirational young people at the WA Youth Awards on Saturday night, April 13.
Jennifer said she was “surprised” when Propel Youth Arts, the peak body for youth arts in WA, approached her to produce the artworks at the beginning of the year.
“It was really out of the blue … I wondered why they had picked me but it was a great opportunity to get my art out there,” she said.
“I used a mix of watercolours, black ink pen and pencil to create 13 artworks, one for each category of the awards.”
Jennifer has enjoyed drawing from a young age and said the creative freedom was “exciting but daunting”.
Propel Youth Arts executive director Monique Douglas said Jennifer was chosen due to her artistic talent and past artworks for Propel.
“We selected Jen to be the 2013 artist for the National Youth Awards as we have worked with her on a number of different projects and really love her work … she is very talented,” she said.
Jennifer said she hoped to pursue her art practise in the future, possibly as part of the architecture degree she began this year at the University of WA.
