Anzac project the big winner
Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington travelled to Albury to accept an economic development award at the Australian Regional Development Conference last week.
The award was presented to the City of Albany for its work on the Anzac Albany project last year.
Mr Wellington said the Anzac centenary commemoration period injected $35 million worth of infrastructure into the region.
"It's recognition of the work that was done, which has put us on the map," he said.
"The economic impact that Anzac had on the city - the new infrastructure - the National Anzac centre, the town square and Stirling Terrace were all part and parcel of it."
Mr Wellington said he also made a presentation on the project in front of about 200 delegates which gave him "a chance to spread the word" about Albany to a national audience.
The Australian Regional Development Conference was hosted from August 26 to 28, and focused on the theme "redefining the future of regional Australia".
