The City of Albany's Anzac Albany project has been heralded as a leading example of a successful collaboration with the public and private sector, winning a prestigious Premier's Award for Excellence in Public Sector Management last week.

Awarded ahead of 12 other finalists in the Revitalising the Regions category, Public Sector Commissioner Mal Wauchope said the Anzac Albany project, which consisted of the establishment of the Albany Heritage Park, the redevelopment of Mt Clarence and Mt Adelaide and the Desert Mounted Corps memorial as well as the establishment of the National Anzac Centre, was viewed as exceptional.

"It is a lead example of local government collaborating with the public and private sector," he said.

"This project has exceeded expectation in the delivery of key infrastructure and events by a local government, facilitating an extraordinary set of economic, environmental, social and cultural outcomes for Albany and the region."

Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said the award was recognition of a culmination of five years of hard work.

"We're very pleased about the result of (the project) and the recognition we are getting for what we've got here," he said.

"The Anzac story is continuing to grow, there's only going to be one National Anzac Centre and that's in Albany.

"It's just done a wonderful thing for the region."

Mr Wellington thanked the State and Federal governments, the Returned and Services League and City staff.

Premier Colin Barnett congratulated the award entrants for their innovation and creativity in the delivery of services to the WA community.
