Alpacas killed in dog attack
WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT: An award-winning Albany alpaca breeder was devastated to discover a dozen of his flock killed or injured at the weekend.
Kallaroo Park alpaca stud owner Mahlon Hotker was distressed to find the bodies of seven junior alpacas aged from six to 11-months-old about 9.30am on Sunday.
"I was just devastated," he said. "It was terrible.
"They are all like your little babies … it's very upsetting."
Mr Hotker said another five alpacas had to be euthanised as a result of their injuries, which he believes were caused by a dog attack.
Mr Hotker said almost all of the animals had won ribbons at last month's Albany Agricultural Show and the loss of stock would negatively impact his business.
He said it was the first dog attack at his Lower King property in his 13 years of alpaca breeding and urged anyone with information to contact him on 0417 187 022.
City of Albany rangers are investigating the attack and can be contacted on 9841 9349.
