Albany stalwart in Lions Hall of Fame
Spencer Fields has been named in the Lions WA Hall of Fame for 51 years of service to the Lions Club in Albany.
The 88-year-old received the honour after being nominated for the hall of fame by the South Coast Lions Club two years ago, in recognition of his hard work and dedication to the Albany Lions Club.
Mr Fields and three other regional Lions members, were honoured at the Lions Hall of Fame dinner on November 6.
The announcement was a shock to Mr Fields.
"I feel absolutely flattered, you don't work to get these things, you work to do and achieve things," he said.
Mr Fields has spent his life getting involved in projects that have benefitted the community.
Albany Lions Club have started many organisations and projects in Albany that have then been handed over to relevant agencies including Albany Community Care and the foundation of the Mammography Bus almost 20 years ago by raising funds through the community.
"I live for it, this work comes natural to me and it's not something you have to do, it's something enjoyable," Mr Fields said.
