Albany Mayor rushed to hospital
Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington was rushed to hospital by the Royal Flying Doctors Services (RFDS) on Sunday after suffering a medical emergency.
In a statement yesterday afternoon, the City of Albany said Mr Wellington was at home on Sunday recovering from a chest infection when his “health deteriorated rapidly” from complications of the infection.
A family friend came to his assistance and St John Ambulance transferred Mr Wellington to Albany Health Campus.
He was stabilised in Albany hospital overnight before being flown to Perth by Royal Flying Doctor Service yesterday morning.
“Mayor Wellington remains in a stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery,” the statement read.
Deputy Mayor Greg Stocks visited Mr Wellington at Albany Health Campus on Sunday and wished him well on behalf of the Albany community.
“The Mayor is in the best of hands and his family are by his side, he is on the road to recovery,” Cr Stocks said.
“His health is the priority and we look forward to welcoming him back home and to council when he has recovered.”
The City has advised Deputy Mayor Greg Stocks will act as Mayor until further notice and Mr Wellington’s family ask their privacy be respected.
