Albany’s Kidsafe WA has been nominated in the WA Regional Achievement and Community Awards, which are set to be presented in October.

The awards reward valuable contributions from people, communities and businesses.

Kidsafe WA has been running since 2012 in Albany and is an independent not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting safety and preventing childhood injuries and accidents.

Kidsafe WA manager playground advisory service Tracy Blaszkow said the Albany office was the organisation’s only regional office.

“We offer a range of services including home safety advice, child car restraint advice and hire service, school safety advice and the playground advisory service runs out of the office as well,” she said.

“We have advisory meetings with various groups and also run workshops and presentations for parents, children and professionals. We visit schools and run interactive safety presentations and offer advice to schools about creating nature play spaces.”

Ms Blaszkow said Kidsafe WA was the only organisation of its kind in the State.

“We are the only non-profit in WA that is focused solely on injury prevention for 0-14-year-olds,” she said.

Ms Blaszkow said the nomination was good recognition.

“It’s great to be recognised for the range of services we offer in the regional areas of WA, in particular the Great Southern,” she said. “As a member of the Great Southern community I believe all regional areas should have access to the sort of services metro communities take for granted.”
