He will play in Albany’s inaugural league game against Denmark-Walpole in the Great Southern Football League on Saturday.

The controversial footballer, who was a star in Brisbane’s three consecutive AFL premierships, will then host an evening at the football club to celebrate their league debut.

Sharks coach Joe Galantino said Akermanis was more than likely to match up against Magpies player-coach James McRae.

Galantino said their recruit was one of the most skilful footballers to play the game and said his experience and presence around the club would be very good education for the club’s younger players.
