A big weekend for three of Katanning Netball Association development teams as they took part at the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships over the long weekend in Perth.

The three-day competition has been run since the 1950s and more than 3500 players from across WA converged at the Gold Netball Centre.

KNA association development officer Davina Davies helped in getting all the behind-the-scenes preparation done to form such great teams and management.

The KNA sent an under-12 team coached by Tania Edwards and assisted by Bridgette O’Neil.

An under-14s team was coached by Kirsty Flugge and the under-16s team was coached by Kelly Holzknecht.

A total of 26 players made up the three KNA teams.

Umpires representing KNA were Georgia Robinson, Brittany Hanna and Julie Hanna.

The opening ceremony for the competition showcased each association involved and Mia Hobbs and Kyleah McRoberts-Clayton represented the KNA, walking the banner in uniform with pride.

Across the three days there was a mixture of weather, the sun was shining through the clouds on Saturday allowing perfect playing conditions.

Although the teams couldn’t quite hold on to a win on the first day, they were close. Keeping their hunger for a win, Sunday was a change up for all three teams.

With some wins in among the rounds, the day was promising.

Teams played in mild rain until the weather changed for the worse and all courts were flooded with the deluge and lightning forcing the final games to be deemed unsafe.

The three-day weekend ended up with lots of bonding, team work and new skills in the bag.

KNA will be sending junior development teams to Albany soon for their annual junior carnival.

Local games will commence with round six of the KNA this Saturday and there are only four rounds left until the finals split for seniors.
