Farmers rescued from stranded properties as flooding wreaks havoc across WA’s Wheatbelt and Great Southern

Two farmers and a dog have been rescued in WA’s Great Southern after they were trapped on their properties by rising flood waters.

Police received a call about 2.15pm about two men stuck on separate farms which had been cut off by flood waters.

A dinghy carrying two SES volunteers was launched just before 5pm from Flats Road near Dumbleyung.

They were led to the edge of the flooded road to deploy the boat by local farmer Robbie Atkins.

One of the farmers and the dog were brought back to dry land at 5.40pm.

The other farmer was rescued by 6pm.

Two of the Perth SES volunteers involved in the search for missing Katanning man Ajit Khan near Wagin today travelled east to help with the Dumbleyung rescue operation.

Dumbleyung Sergeant John Allanson said police would be lost without the contribution of the SES.

“This is one of the things we have to deal with as farmers,” Sgt Allanson said.

“This doesn’t happen much — the last time was 2017.”
