High-flying Katanning product Shai Bolton grabs 2021 AFL Mark of the Year medal
Richmond star Shai Bolton’s remarkable grab in round eight against Geelong was recognised at the Brownlow Medal presentation in Perth on Sunday night.
The Katanning-born Bolton won the 2021 Mark of the Year Medal for his spectacular leap in the goal square over teammate Tom Lynch and Cats’ Mark Blicavs.
Bolton used the pack as a stepladder to climb high into the air, making for some spectacular photos.
The Tigers midfielder was awarded the honours over teammate Jack Riewoldt and Hawthorn’s Tim O’Brien.
Bolton accepted the award at the gala function from West Coast Eagles star and former mark of the year winner Nic Naitanui.
“I was just waiting there for a while, wanting him to kick it down to me but I guess it was a good mark,” Bolton said when asked about what he was thinking at the time of the mark.
“I reckon Liam Baker is my stepladder at training.”
Bolton joked “maybe next time” when asked to talk about beating Riewoldt in the mark of the year honour.
