Australian Electoral Commission calls for Federal election workers with vacancies remaining in O’Connor

Great Southern residents are being asked to put their hand up to help out this Federal election day, with positions still available just days out from the big day. Voters across the country will head to the polls on May 21 to decide their representatives in Federal parliament. However, workers are still required to operate the voting centres where millions of Australians will cast their vote. There were 1141 temporary election jobs up for grabs across this O’Connor electorate this year, which covers the Great Southern region. While a substantial number of those positions have been filled, some remain available. AEC WA State manager Gina Dario said working during an election was a great way to give back to your community. “It’s an opportunity to get paid to have a front row seat to see democracy in action,” Ms Dario said. “No election experience is required — we’ll give you all the training and support you need.” All election workers are required to be fully immunised against COVID-19 or have a medical exemption to work, and will be required to wear a face mask.
