A man with mobility issues has died after he couldn’t find his way to the front door of his burning house in Perth’s east this afternoon.

The 55-year-old man was found near the entrance of his home in Redcliffe just after 1.30pm today, after the blaze ripped through the house within minutes.

Neighbours alerted authorities after noticing the unmistakable smell of plastic burning.

Firefighters, paramedics and police rushed to the unit on Butson Place but were tragically too late.

Neighbours attempted to help, but were unable to reach the man in time. One reported hearing banging in the area, but thought it was the sound of car doors closing.

The fire has since been extinguished and is now the subject of a police investigation.

Arson squad detectives combed the area for clues but police suspect the blaze was not suspicious, but an accident.
